Over a decade since its first initial stable release on November 18, 2021, open-world sandbox game Minecraft has become the single best-selling video game of all time and one of the best-selling digital entertainment products. Through the years, the blocky adventuring game has been available on practically every device powerful enough to run it, from PC to home console and even Raspberry Pi.
With such a large and dedicated fan base, it makes perfect sense that there have been many companion apps and programs throughout the years to either improve the user experience or change the way the game plays. While these typically take the form of downloadable mods or texture packs, what we are looking at today is quite a bit different.
Basic x-ray mods and resource/texture packs have been around for years now, and while banned on most Minecraft servers, they can be helpful in single-player to help speed up the process of resource collecting. A typical x-ray mod will clear the textures of most blocks common blocks in the game, leaving the user free to look around and find veins of precious ores hidden throughout the world. However, despite the obvious upsides, there are a few drawbacks to the classic x-ray technique. One big issue is that the invisible nature of the terrain can make traversing caves annoying, to say the very least, especially since the cave system got a significant overhaul with the Caves and Cliffs update. It is far too easy to take a wrong turn and find yourself plunging forty blocks down to your death.
The mobile app Find Diamonds does things differently, however.
When you input your world seed and current coordinates into the app, it will scan for veins of diamonds in your area and show you their coordinates as well as how many blocks of ore are in that vein. This alone makes it far less clunky than the old-fashioned x-ray method.
With the app being free to download, you’d be correct in assuming that some ads will be involved. With each ore listing found, the user will watch one short ad, which is honestly not too bad as you can watch the ad while mining the diamonds, so you’ll have a new coordinate set waiting for you by the time you finish the vein.
Alternatively, there is a pro subscription available in the app for just short of $2.00. This subscription not only removes all ads from the app, it also allows you to generate lists of 20 vein coordinates at once, as well as the option to find far more than just diamond ore. With the pro subscription, you’ll be able to find and track any kind of ore, as well as rare non-ore world features such as spammers and ancient debris, with tracking of portals, strongholds, and nether fortresses likely to be added in the near future.
Now, is the pro subscription worth the price? That really depends on what you’re looking for. If you’re only on the hunt for diamonds and don’t mind the occasional ad, then the free version is perfect for you. However, if you play a lot of Minecraft and are looking to expand your chest of valuable resources quickly, then perhaps give the pro version a try.
Either way, Find Diamonds is a real game changer when it comes to resource collecting, and the app is compatible with most stable releases of the game.
The coordinates generated are rarely ever wrong, making it a great tool to add to your Minecraft toolkit.
