We Get One Shot At This: Why 007 First Light is the Most Important game of 2026

By Oliver Giles 007 First Light is the most important game of 2026, bar none. Yes, I am well aware that we are supposedly finally getting GTA VI this year, and I'm just as excited for that as everyone else, but, First Light represents a light in the black for many gamers: hope that if something is truly beloved by enough people, there is always a chance it will return. As the title implies, this piece is about hope, and it will be, but we've got to go through some nasty stuff first. As a kid of the 2000s, James Bond was the coolest thing in the world to me. By the time we arrived at the series' 50th anniversary in 2012, I'd seen all of the films, played almost all of the 3D-era games, and had even read the original novels. With all this in mind, I was understandably incredibly excited for the release of 007 Legends in October. Less than four months later, everything was on fire. Legends was a complete disaster; Eurocom went bust, and a drought of Bond games began th...

RICO is Still Kind of a Mess

Oliver Giles February 14, 2024 Game: RICO Available On: Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC First released in 2019 by developer Rising Star Games, RICO was an interesting indie dev take on the tactical shooter genre, popularized by series like Tom Clancey’s Rainbow Six and SWAT. With a cell-shaded art style reminiscent of comic books and cult-classic FPS game XIII and a low price tag of just $20, there was a lot of promise. RICO proved to have solid gameplay and good replayability through its use of co-op multiplayer and a Daily Challenge mode introduced in late 2019. However, on console, the game struggled with performance issues, leading to framerate stutter and crashes, particularly on the Nintendo Switch. Almost six years after the game’s first release, these problems have been patched; however, the game still has a few issues that drag it down quite a bit. Firstly, the controls are pretty poor overall, and the game offers no native button-remap ...

Gear.Club Unlimited - Nostalgic Feel, Modern Gameplay

By Oliver Giles AVAILABLE ON: Nintendo Switch Microsoft has Forza. Sony has Gran Turismo. Nintendo Has… Gear.Club Unlimited? When you think of racing games on Nintendo platforms, your mind probably goes straight to the widely successful Mario Kart franchise. Or perhaps if you grew up in the 2000s, you think of the days when titles from franchises such as Need for Speed and Hot Wheels populated the Nintendo racing scene. Nowadays, however, if you’re looking for a racing game with licensed vehicles on a Nintendo platform, your choices are rather slim. Enter Gear.Club Unlimited . With a standard digital retail cost of $14.99 US and currently on sale for $2.98, Gear.Club Unlimited comes from the folks over at Eden Games, the same team behind the hugely popular Test Drive Unlimited games. That being said, Gear.Club Unlimited isn’t quite in the same vein as its more famous predecessors. While the Test Drive Unlimited games strived for realism and free-feeling open-world environments, Gear....

GTA + - Is it worth it?

By Oliver Giles When Rockstar Games announced a subscription-based premium service for Grand Theft Auto Online on the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5, the general reaction in the community ranged between mild annoyance to general apathy, with the Idea being mocked quite a bit online. However, I happen to have quite a lot of Game Pass rewards points saved up, more than enough to get a few months worth of GTA+. And with the service reportedly arriving on the PC in the near future,  I decided to go for it, see what it’s all about and, most importantly, is it worth the cost. For those unaware, GTA+ is a monthly in-game service that promises members free in-game content (such as clothing, properties, vehicles, etc) each month, along with $500,000 in game cash each month for the price of $5.99 US. On top of that, the service also gives users early-access to content when new updates come as well as cash and RP boosters and exclusive shark card offers. Using April of 2022 as an example, ...

MLB The Show 22 (Series X/PS5 Edition) - Early Access Review

By Oliver Giles ATTENTION: This review pertains explicitly to the version of the game for current generation consoles (Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5). Some features mentioned here are not available on the version made for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. It's that time of year again; baseball season is only a few days away, and with it comes another installment of Sony's MLB The Show game series. While the vast majority of yearly sports games don't change all that much from year to year, there were quite a lot of promises made by San Diego Studios leading up to the early-access launch of the game on March 31st. Did SDS come through on those promises, and how does this year's title differ from last year? That's what we're looking at today. In order to keep this review somewhat simple, I'll break it down into sections and discuss the pros and cons of each. Road to the Show Before Diamond Dynasty mode came along in MLB 14: The Show 14, the...
