Xbox Design Lab: How to Create - Not So Creepy

Image
Written by Ilia the Wanderer Controller Designed by Ilia the Wanderer “Showcase” and “Main” photo edits by Oliver Giles Create your controller at https://xboxdesignlab.xbox.com/ Since its first limited run release back in September of 2017, the Minecraft Creeper Xbox One S controller has been my favorite out of all the controllers I own. While I can obviously use that controller on my Series X, I wish Microsoft would bring back the Minecraft controllers in the new Series X controller format, that way I could have both the awesome design and the increased functionality of new-gen controllers. Until then though, I have created this — the Not So Creepy Series X controller! Using a somewhat similar color scheme to the Creeper Controller, the Not So Creepy controller features an Electric Green/Carbon Black color setup to achieve good contrast. I plan on creating an updated version when Microsoft adds more parts and colors to the Design Lab (They’ve talked about adding a bunch of ne...

Xbox Design Lab: How to Create - Overkill

Image
Written by Oliver Giles Controller Design by Oliver Giles The official Xbox Design Lab has finally returned from hiatus! Beginning in October of 2020, Microsoft's custom controller creation site was temporarily shut down so the company could get the parts necessary to create the new model of controller seen with the Xbox Series X/S. But now it's back and better than ever, with all-new custom options to choose from, meaning that gamers can once again get back to designing and ordering their own custom controllers at a pretty reasonable price. https://xboxdesignlab.xbox.com/ This makes it the perfect time to introduce a new True Gaming United series, Xbox Design Lab: How to Create . In these posts, I will show off some interesting controller concepts, created by myself as well as ot her blog contributors, that you can make and order from the Design Lab. And what better way to get started than with a controller I've already created and purchased myself— Overkill . Controller T...

the Force Unleashed II - the Last Great Star Wars Game

By Oliver Giles AVAILABLE ON: Xbox 360 (Compatible with Xbox One & Series X/S), PlayStation 3, Microsoft Windows. NOTE: This review will be referring to the main version of the game available on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, not the downscaled version made to work with the hardware of the Nintendo Wii or the very different version created for the Nintendo DS.      It's no secret that the output of Star Wars games since Disney bought the franchise and gave exclusive game rights to Electronic Arts has been a bit shaky, to say the least. We've gotten two decent remakes of the classic Battlefront game, the sequel only becoming decent after a lot of community backlash, a good game in the form of Squadrons, and the very good game that is Jed Fallen Order. However, even though Fallen Order was undoubtedly a step in the right direction in terms of what Star Wars fans and gamers want, it still wasn't truly great. This has brought me to the saddening realization that the last gr...

Haven

Haven Available on: Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Series S, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Microsoft Windows. By Ilia the Wanderer If you're a fan of great storytelling and unique design, you need to check out Haven. Set on a fractured planet in the far future, you play as two young lovers who must explore the vast chunks of the planet to help repair their spaceship. Along the way, you'll get a chance to discover more about not only the main characters but also the surprisingly deep lore of the game. The art style is absolutely stunning, a perfect mix of comic book art, western-anime styling, and cel-shaded graphics. The unique style perfectly fits the vibrant colors of the game as you explore through the vast map, discovering secrets and helping to cure planet chunks of the rust-crystal infestation that has taken over and turned the native species into hostile monsters. While it may take some getting used to, Haven's combat system is unique and exciting. A combination of turn-...
